Interview with Chef Taya
A: I have been inspired by a plant-based way of eating for many years now but options in the Fargo-Moorhead community have been so limited. More often than not, I would have to cook my own food and it slowly turned into a passion of mine. I love creating new recipes that are fully vegan and making people happy with the food that I create.
Q: How did you choose the name Fika Cafe?
A: I come from a Swedish background and Fika means, “A moment to slow down and appreciate the little things in life”. It is usually used to describe getting coffee and pastries with friends. I really enjoy their concept and wanted to bring that happiness to people through the cafe. My main goal was to ensure that people could come into Fika Cafe to have a great time with friends and enjoy delicious vegan meals.
Q: What is your favorite part about Fika Cafe?
A: Besides the food (which would definitely be the top answer), I think that both the employees and the aspect of sustainability are my favorite parts about Fika Cafe. The employees are all so friendly, knowledge, and create a positive atmosphere for customers. For sustainability, we do things such as compost, recycle, and reduce our food waste every day which is a huge value for the business.
Q: What is your favorite menu item?
A: I am a huge fan for the baked Mac-n-Cheez with bread crumbs. I think I could eat it every single day.
Q: What is next for Fika Cafe?
A: I would love to get more community involvement and continue to host fun events that customers enjoy!
